Incorporating northern part of Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park
The Coromandel Forest Park (72,000 hectares) contains some of the most rugged scenery in the region – beautiful yet still scarred by a century of exploitation. Spectacular volcanic hills, clothed in kauri forest and regenerating bush, provide many opportunities for exciting tramping trips. Its stunning river valleys and low foothills are perfect for shorter walks, picnicking and relaxing.
Coromandel forest includes groves of giant kauri, rimu and tawa on the upper slopes and pohutukawa, puriri and nikau palms along the coast.
